Rocket League Goes F2P Sept. 23, Prep Event Starts Tomorrow

By videogamesaction

Psyonix promised that Rocket League would go free-to-play this summer, which ends on Sept. 21 — and it lied! The news came down today that Rocket League will actually go free-to-play on Sept. 23, two whole days past the end of summer in the United States! Lying game devs! Liars!

Yes, we’re being sarcastic, in case you couldn’t tell. Psyonix will flip the F2P switch at 8 a.m. Pacific on Sept. 23, marked by a seemingly Fortnite-branded in-game event, Llama-Rama, and preceded by a week-long preparatory celebration that starts tomorrow at 9 a.m. Pacific.

Starting then, you’ll be able to link your Rocket League account to your Epic Games Store account, which will be the only place new players can get their Rocket League fix after the 23rd. If you have the game and have received items for your Legacy status, that’s also when you’ll be able to find them in your account.

Starting tomorrow, Rocket League will also be part of Epic’s Support-a-Creator program, which lets you enter a creator’s code in the Item Shop. Your selected creator will receive 5% of the sale price of purchased items in Credits.

When free-to-play goes live next week, it will come with a new Season, competitive tournaments, and game-wide challenges. If you want to spend some money, you can get the Endo Starter Pack for 500 Credits or the Jäger Pack for 1,000 Credits. Simply adding Rocket League to your account before Oct. 23 will net you a $10 coupon for any purchase of $14.99 or more the Epic Games Store. Downloading and launching the game in that time frame will also net you the Sun Ray Boost and Hot Rocks Trail.
